Event playbook
Educational only. This page is a process guide for learning how major macro events work. It is not a trading playbook, not financial advice, and not a signal to buy or sell anything when a number hits.
Site vs Telegram — strongest reminder
Primers on this site stay stable so you can re-read them under pressure. Live decoding of FOMC, CPI, and NFP belongs on Telegram, where the day’s language, the surprise vs consensus, and the context update in real time: Macro Simplified on Telegram.
This page does not embed a live calendar or tell you to “trade the number.”

Diagram placeholder: calm event-day process — learning checklist, not a trade plan.
Which events matter most (FOMC, CPI, NFP)
Plenty of data releases move headlines. For retail and crypto-curious beginners building a macro habit, three clusters matter most:
FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee)
The Fed’s policy meeting cycle. You get a rate decision, a statement, often a press conference, and periodically updated projections. This is when the Fed toolkit—policy rate, balance sheet plans, and forward guidance—shows up in public.
CPI (and related inflation prints)
CPI and core CPI (and, on other days, PCE) tell the price side of the dual mandate. Surprises here often reshape guesses about how tight or easy policy needs to stay. Primer: Inflation 101.
NFP (Nonfarm payrolls and the jobs report)
The monthly employment situation: jobs gained or lost, unemployment rate, wages, and related detail. It speaks to the jobs half of the mandate and to growth momentum. Primer: Jobs and growth.
Other releases (GDP, retail sales, PMI surveys, Fed speeches) matter too. Start with these three until the rhythm feels familiar. See also How to read macro for the general habit of reading any print.
Before the print
Preparation beats adrenaline.
- Re-open the matching primer the night before or the morning of—Fed toolkit for FOMC, Inflation 101 for CPI, Jobs and growth for NFP.
- Know what the release contains. Rate decision vs statement vs presser; headline vs core; payrolls vs unemployment vs wages.
- Note the consensus range if you follow one—as a benchmark for “surprise,” not as a truth to bet on.
- Decide your information diet. One trusted live source (Telegram) beats twenty charts refreshing at once.
- Write one learning goal. Example: “I will explain headline vs core to myself after CPI” — not “I will decide what markets must do.”
You are training comprehension. You are not rehearsing a trade.
During / right after
When the number lands:
- Read the official release structure first (or a careful summary), not only social-media hot takes.
- Separate fact from spin. “Payrolls rose X” is a fact. “This guarantees a cut” is spin.
- Watch the first reaction without marrying it. Opening moves reverse often; your job as a learner is to notice what surprised people.
- Park the urge to act. This site’s rule is explicit: no trading the print from these pages.
If you follow Telegram, that is the place for a calm, same-day decode in plain English. Keep this playbook open as the process checklist.
After the print
An hour or a day later, the learning sticks:
- Compare your pre-print notes to what actually printed.
- Update the story, not a position. Did the data lean demand-hot, growth-soft, inflation-sticky, or mixed?
- Link back to the Fed’s dual mandate. Inflation side, jobs side, or both?
- Re-read one primer section that felt fuzzy while the event was live.
- Ignore the scoreboard mentality. Being “right” about the immediate market twitch is not the goal of education.
Over months, this after-action habit builds intuition that no single viral thread can replace.
